We’re thrilled to discuss a critical aspect of our association’s efforts – the Australian University Esports Association (AUEA) Standards. As part of our commitment to the development of esports within the university landscape, we’ve invested heavily in creating these standards. They serve as a roadmap for ethical, competitive, and sustainable esports environments.

The AUEA Standards are comprehensive guidelines designed to foster fair play, inclusivity, and integrity in esports. They provide direction on a range of aspects, from conduct and anti-corruption to intellectual property rights, partnership and sponsorship guidelines, and privacy policies.

So, who can benefit from these standards, and how should they be used?

1. For Universities & Esports Clubs: The AUEA Standards offer a framework for universities and esports clubs seeking to develop or enhance their esports programs. They provide guidance on how to foster a supportive and ethical esports environment, plan and manage esports events effectively, engage with industry partners and sponsors responsibly, and comply with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

2. For Students & Players: For student participants and players, these standards act as a guide to understand their rights, responsibilities, and the ethical expectations within the esports landscape. They empower students to compete in a fair, respectful, and inclusive environment.

3. For Partners & Sponsors: For our industry partners and sponsors, the standards signify our commitment to transparency, ethical conduct, and the sustainable growth of university esports. They highlight our determination to protect the integrity of the esports ecosystem and the interests of our partners.

4. For Parents & Educators: The standards reassure parents and educators that we prioritise student wellbeing, fair play, and integrity in esports. They also provide a resource for parents and educators seeking to understand the esports landscape better.

In terms of usage, the AUEA Standards should be viewed as a reference and a guiding document. They can be used when drafting policies and procedures, planning and executing esports events, engaging with partners and sponsors, and educating students about their responsibilities in esports.

Through these standards, the AUEA is building a robust foundation for the future of esports in Australian universities. We encourage all stakeholders to utilise these standards, engage in open dialogue, and contribute to the sustainable growth of our vibrant esports community.

As always, for any questions or feedback, feel free to reach out to us at standards@auea.org.au. Together, let’s make university esports a benchmark for excellence, inclusivity, and integrity.
